The Opportunity

The Deputy Principal is an integral member of the St Gabriel’s Executive team with delegated responsibility for effective management of the School’s operations. Under the guidance of the Principal, the role is responsible for leading the daily teaching and learning activities and for implementing the vision and mission of St Gabriel’s School. The Deputy Principal will contribute meaningfully to St Gabriel’s philosophy, aims and objectives in all aspects of the daily operations of the School.

Committed to student achievement, the Deputy Principal is an accomplished educator with experience delivering strategic projects across a school. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for leading teams and achieving high educational and operational outcomes. Experience in engaging with a school community and developing authentic and respectful relationships are essential components of the role.

The role may encompass a teaching load and is a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities

With the Deputy Principal being appointed by the Principal, specific responsibilities will be negotiated with the Principal and include:

  • Fostering a spirit of hope and service within the School community, empowering individuals to make a meaningful difference in the world.

  • Development of collaborative and positive relationships within and beyond the School community.

  • Providing a sound role model for teachers and staff as a senior teacher and administrator.

  • Holding delegated responsibility in the absence of the Principal.

Selection Criteria

  • A thorough understanding of the mission of St Gabriel’s and the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice.

  • Strong professional presence and an outstanding record as a teacher and educational leader.

  • Demonstrated positive leadership of staff and students.

  • Deep understanding of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and the NSW curriculum.

  • Ability to lead and implement the curriculum suited to the needs of St Gabriel’s School students.

  • Postgraduate qualifications in inclusive/special education, leadership, or a relevant academic disciplinary field.

  • Highly organised, meticulous planner, with demonstrable initiative.

  • Current NESA accreditation.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the NSW Office of Children’s Guardian Child Safe Standards.

  • Valid Working with Children Check.
