What are the types of gifts you can leave in your Will?

Residual

This is when you pass on the remainder of your Estate, after other family members or bequests have been considered.

Percentage

You can also choose to leave a percentage of your residual Estate to a specific charity.

Or you could leave a percentage of your whole Estate.

Pecuniary

This is when you state a specific amount in your will that you would like to leave a person or charity (e.g $5,000).

Assets

Assets are exactly what they sound like, leaving a significant item that might have historical or financial value to the charity.

FAQs

How do I word a gift-in-will?

As your Will is a legal document, it is important to word correctly. A solicitor will help you to draft this, but the following is a guide.

“I give to St Gabriel’s School, ABN 11 214 967 027,

The residue of my estate (or __% of the residue of my estate) or

The whole of my estate (or __% of my estate)

The sum of $___

Asset or assets (list in detail)

for its general purposes, for which the receipt of the Treasurer or other authorised officer shall be an absolute discharge.”

What if I don’t have a Will?

Making or changing your Will to include a gift to the St Gabriel’s could be as simple as contacting your legal advisor.
