Hands-on Learning About Nature

During the term Stage 3 have been learning about our earth and the natural disasters that occur. The class were very intrigued when participating in lessons learning about volcanos and erosion. The students had a turn at building a barrier to prevent beach erosion. Some of the students made imitations of sea walls, sand bags and vegetation. During the experiment they found that the most successful form of prevention was using sand bags and sea walls.

The following week the students conducted an experiment creating an imitation of volcanoes with various chemicals. They also used these chemicals to mix together to see how the pressure under the earth causes volcanoes to erupt.

As you can see, lots of fun was had by all, but also some great hands-on learning to teach them these concepts of nature.
