The Opportunity

At St Gabriel’s, the Visual Arts Teacher provides support for the Principal in the management of the Visual Arts program.  The Visual Arts Teacher supports a team of classroom specialist within the school to deliver and promote high quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and support the K-6 NESA curriculum or 7-12 NESA Life Skills curriculum (Visual Arts) preparing students for independence and post-school life.

  • Work collaboratively with staff to promote Visual Arts within and outside the School.

  • Manage teaching resources for Visual Arts.

  • Prepare and manage the budget ensuring that expenditure does not exceed approval limits.

  • Embeds inquiry skills into units of work and works with the subject teachers to specifically teach and assess these skills as an integral part of the learning.

Selection Criteria

  • Qualifications and experience in teaching either the secondary or primary curriculum.

  • Experience in working with students with a range of disabilities.

  • Sound knowledge of special education evidence-based practices and pedagogy.

  • Demonstrated commitment to student wellbeing. 

  • Accredited at, or working towards, Proficient Level through NESA.  

  • An ability to deliver engaging and differentiated lessons. 

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.  

  • Sound technology skills, including the use of interactive whiteboards and iPads.  

  • Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships. 

  • Collaborative team member.   

  • Willingness to uphold the Catholic and Edmund Rice ethos of the School.

  • Commitment to the School’s Vision and Mission, Strategic Goals and the EREA Charter Touchstones.

  • Excellent organisational skills. 

  • Commitment to Child Safe Guarding Principles.

  • Current Working with Children Check.

  • Australian Citizen, permanent resident or a valid visa with full working rights in Australia.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience and/or qualifications in the area of Special Education.
