The Opportunity

At St Gabriel’s, the Teacher Librarian leads the effective running of the Library, particularly in the areas of teaching and development of lessons.  This enables the facilitation of the learning experience of the students and encourages the teaching staff to see the Library as an invaluable resource.

The Teacher Librarian is an expert in current pedagogy and is proactive in the use of innovative learning and teaching techniques. The Teacher Librarian is aware of current best practice in the design of learning spaces to suit a range of learning needs and a variety of activities. The Teacher Librarian assists in the provision of the maintenance and development of Library Resources and contributes to the effective running of the Library. The Teacher Librarian will be conducting classes on a regular basis and will be attending excursions, camps and evening events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides support for the teaching staff in collaborating with them to plan, design and implement online teaching programs.

  • Conducts specialist classes in information literacy, and or a specialist area of the curriculum.

  • Embeds inquiry skills into units of work and works with the subject teachers to specifically teach and assess these skills as an integral part of the learning.

Selection Criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (desirable).

  • Desirable but not mandatory - eligibility for membership of A.L.I.A.

  • Demonstrate practices that reflect current pedagogical directions.

  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of ICT and its application in teaching and learning.

  • Have highly developed interpersonal skills; can direct staff, work as a team member and collaborate with other staff members.

  • Be able to work under pressure in a busy and varied environment.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the NSW Office of Children’s Guardian Child Safe Standards.

  • Current Working with Children Check.

  • Australian Citizen, permanent resident or a valid visa with full working rights in Australia.

  • Commitment to Catholic and Edmund Rice ethos of the School.
